Truffles vs. Bonbons: What's the Difference?
Truffles and bon-bons are both delicious chocolate confections. Ultimately, the best way to decide which one you prefer is to try both and see which one you like better! No matter which one you choose, both truffles and bon-bons are a delicious and decadent way to indulge your sweet tooth!
Truffles
Chocolate is the true star in a truffle. Truffles are often described as having a rich, smooth, creamy texture and deep chocolate flavor. Truffles are made with chocolate ganache (a mixture of chocolate and cream) which is then rolled into a ball and coated in a thin layer of chocolate, cocoa powder, nuts, or other ingredients.
Note: Why are they called truffles? Because the round balls look similar to truffles that live in forests.
Bon-Bons
Bon-bons can be filled with a variety of different ingredients, like nuts or nut paste, fruits, caramel, and even other types of chocolate. A bon-bon is often molded into different shapes and sizes — sometimes the mold can be quite elaborate. Some bon-bons may be decorated with edible flowers, gold leaf, or other embellishments. And bon-bons come in a variety of different flavors and textures, depending on the ingredients that are used.
Which should I choose?
Whether you prefer truffles or bon-bons is a matter of personal preference. If you love the rich, creamy flavor of chocolate, then truffles are a good choice. If you prefer a variety of different flavors and textures, then bon-bons may be a better option.
